Followers, participants and shared trips

There are four different ways someone can be connected to a trip. They are not the same thing, and they do not give the same access.

Crew member

A crew is a group of people who may travel together. Being in the crew gives crew level access, such as crew chat and the crew's trip ideas.

Being in the crew does not automatically put you on every trip that crew plans.

Trip participant

Someone who is actually on that trip. Trip participants get the working parts of the trip, according to the usual permissions: Plan, Tasks, Packing, shared Documents, Money, Trip chat, check-ins and photos.

To give someone this access, invite them to the trip. See Inviting people.

Shared with you

If you are signed in to BucketBuddy and open a valid share link, you can save the trip so it appears under Trips, then Shared with you. That is view only. It does not make you a crew member and it does not make you a trip participant.

Public follower

Anyone holding a share link, signed in or not. They see the parts of the trip you have chosen to share, and they can react, sign the guestbook and message you. They can never edit anything, and they never see Money, Tasks, Packing, Trip chat or documents. See Sharing your trip with followers.

Choosing between them

• Someone helping plan and pay: invite them to the trip.
• Someone you travel with often: put them in the crew as well.
• Family and friends who just want to follow along: send them the share link.
